Layer by layer

The artist Maria Morganti works with colours, every day with one in particular, which never appears pure, but is added to another, creating one layer after another. She herself tells us “Every day the colour is renewed, matter is transformed, consumed and not accumulated”.

Maria found a hole and tried to find out how many colours could be contained inside, how many stories could be generated, day after day, from the encounter of different pigments collected there.

The laboratory in which the children will be involved will be an opportunity to experiment with colours, discover their particularities and find out how they can be superimposed on each other, creating constantly new material that is never the same in its combinations.

The activity will be divided into two sections. Initially the children will be involved in a shared pictorial practice during which they will create layers of colour – following the artist’s own practice – with the aim of generating new pigments.

In the following section they will play with coloured powders, stratifying them in containers that the children can take home with them.
